Isa MooreIt gets me up in the morning, as if it wasn’t for Elderberries I would be on my own all day.
Florrie KendrickThis service is invaluable to the whole community of Campbeltown and beyond, not just to my Mother. The care and attention shown by all the staff is second to none.
My Mother is 88 and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 3 years ago. Prior to this she was fit and healthy, regularly walking her dog and playing bowls. Quite rapidly her independence declined and was unable to carry on with her pastimes, this was a huge upset to her and left her very agitated and unhappy. I then heard about the Elderberries, an organisation administered by Shopper’s Aide. My Mum attends this twice a week, where she is collected and then meets up with others having tea and biscuits, with lots of activities going on i.e. music, choirs, keep fit, memory books, crafts and many more, she is then taken home. As my Mother’s needs being that it is essential for her to be out, there is also provision within Shoppers Aide allowing us to tap in to for someone to take my Mum out for a run in the car and go for cake and tea. Once again collected and taken home. She thoroughly enjoys this, and it makes a huge impact on her temperaments, all for the better. Overall, we use this fantastic service five days a week, allowing my mother stimulation, independence and enjoyment this boosts her immeasurably. I have no doubts my Mum’s prognosis would have rapidly declined a lot earlier without the support of the Shoppers Aide’s incredible, caring and thoughtful staff.
This service is invaluable to the whole community of Campbeltown and beyond, not just to my Mother. The care and attention shown by all the staff is second to none. The transport is also vital to allow many if not all dependants the means to access such facilities. It has become a vital lifeline for many users as well as their Carers. Such community groups should be allowed and afforded as much provision as possible and if it were to be removed it would be huge significance to many throughout Kintyre.
